IKN Nusantara Towards NZE 2045, Gradual Implementation of 100 Percent Electric Vehicle Public Transportation Starting Now

,

The National Capital or IKN Nusantara is the new capital of the Republic of Indonesia which will replace the status and function of Jakarta in the future. Located in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, approximately 1.5 hours by land from Balikpapan City or by klotok boat for approximately 20 minutes.

Currently, a series of infrastructure is being built in IKN Nusantara. One of the exciting things is the holding of the National Training Center or National Football Training Center, aka training camp, with a groundbreaking ceremony or laying of the first stone carried out by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, accompanied by Erick Thohir, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and General Chair of the All-Indonesian Football Association. (PSSI).

At that time President Joko Widodo stated, “If the National Football Training Center in Jakarta players could only practice at night or in the afternoon, now they can do it at any time, there are no problems.”

The area of IKN Nusantara is almost four times that of Jakarta, namely approximately 256,142 hectares and the sea area is 68,189 hectares. Its existence as the future capital of Indonesia is determined and regulated by Law Number 3 of 2022.

Quoted from the Antara news agency, Nusantara is changing its development orientation to become Indonesia-centric, and functions to accelerate the country’s economic transformation.

In managing transportation in the IKN Nusantara region, the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) is targeting the implementation of 100 percent electric vehicle transportation by 2045 in order to achieve IKN Nusantara as a city with zero emissions or Zero Net Emission (NZE) by 2045. Or NZE 2045.

This is done through the implementation of various environmentally friendly vehicles, both mass and private transportation. Then the strategy to achieve IKN as a city with zero emissions is also carried out through the development of new, renewable energy in the form of a Solar Power Plant (PLTS), which supplies the energy needs of the entire IKN area by 2045.

OIKN recorded a target of 100 percent electric vehicle transportation by 2045, meaning the mode transportation implements the use of 100 percent electric vehicles as a mode of transportation. The process will be carried out in stages in the IKN Nusantara area until it is truly pure Electric Vehicle or EV in 2045.

“Related to the use of 100 percent electric vehicles in 2045, currently the use of electric vehicles in the IKN area has started and of course it will be carried out in stages in “The IKN area is currently focused first on the IKN Central Government Core Area (KIPP) area,” explained Myrna Asnawati Safitri, OIKN Deputy for Environment and Natural Resources in an online discussion in Jakarta, Friday (24/11/2023).

He added that the gradual implementation of 100 percent electric vehicles as a mode of transportation in IKN aims to let the public know that IKN Nusantara is different from cities in Indonesia.

“IKN Nusantara is different from cities in Indonesia, including the mode of transportation,” added Myrna Asnawati Safitri.

OIKN will of course continue to implement environmentally friendly energy and vehicles in stages in accordance with the readiness of the IKN areas that have been developed.

For the record, the transportation concept at IKN Nusantara was previously explained by OIKN that public transportation using environmentally friendly fuel will be put forward. So the use of mass transportation modes dominates compared to private ones, learning from the potential for traffic jams that occur in Jakarta and various big cities.

An integrated public transportation mode system is also being implemented, apart from that, bicycle and walking transportation are also being encouraged, thereby creating the figure of the archipelago as an environmentally friendly capital city as well as being an example for Indonesia to take off towards a condition of zero emissions or no motor vehicle pollution.

Several automotive manufacturers who have factories in the country are now continuing to try to increase the TKDN (Domestic Component Level) so they can get incentives from the government for their electrified products, as well as being able to play a role in realizing zero emission transportation in the Indonesian IKN.
