Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said that the implementation of toll discounts, especially during the holiday season such as Eid and Christmas, New Year was an initiative of each Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT).
Basuki said that although the authority to grant toll road tariff discounts rests with each BUJT, his party proposed a price discount during the year-end holiday period to the Indonesian Toll Road Association or ATI.
“Therefore, we submitted a proposal for a discount on toll rates to the Indonesian Toll Road Association,” said Minister Basuki in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/11/2023).
Basuki reminded that not all BUJTs apply discounts on toll rates as is the case for Eid 2023, because there are BUJTs that apply discounts and there are also those that do not apply them.
Regarding this toll rate discount, the government is only appealing because the government cannot intervene in BUJT’s corporate actions.
“So everything must be based on corporate actions in accordance with the business processes of each BUJT,” said Basuki, adding that the toll discount aims to smooth traffic flow during the holiday season.
Two new toll roads put into operation
Meanwhile, to smooth traffic during the New Year Christmas holidays, Minister Basuki said that the South JakartaCikampek II Toll Road and the SoloYogyakartaYogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Toll Road will be put into operation.
“The toll roads that can be used during Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 are the Cikampek II Selatan Toll Road in the Kutanegara Sadang segment and the Solo Yogyakarta Airport YIA Toll Road in the Kartasura Karanganom segment,” said Basuki at a Joint Working Meeting with Commission V of the DPR in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Basuki added that during last Eid the SoloYogyakartaYIA toll road was only functional up to the Pakis segment.
“For Christmas and New Year this time, God willing, it can be used up to the 13 km Karanganom segment,” he said.
Based on data from the Ministry of PUPR, the length of operational toll roads in Indonesia is 2,816 km which are managed by 52 Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT) on 73 sections spread across the island of Sumatra along 865 km, Java Island along 1,782 km, Bali Island along 10 km, Kalimantan Island 97 km long, and Sulawesi Island 62 km long.
