There is a sign showing the prohibition of death routes, drivers on Christmas holidays are advised to pay attention to this route in Bantul Yogyakarta

,

The Christmas and New Year or Nataru holidays are approaching, private vehicle users who will be paving various routes should always update the latest or current conditions of the road sections they will be traveling on. One of them is the Cinomati route on the Pleret-Dlingo border, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region.

Quoted from the Antara news agency, on Saturday (9/12/2023) there was a single accident involving an Elf type four-wheeled vehicle on the Cinomati route, Bantul.

Carrying 17 passengers, this car drove from Dlingo via Cinomati. Arriving at a steep bend, the vehicle’s brakes failed, resulting in the vehicle being under control and falling into a ravine. One passenger died and dozens of other victims were injured.

Therefore, Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih said that efforts to remove the Cinomati route from Google Maps were presented as an option to prevent potential traffic accidents in the area during the 2023 Christmas and New Year 2024 holidays.

Indeed, the road is wide, but users don’t know the steepness, don’t know the geometry of the road what it’s like,” explained Sumariyoto, Daily Executive (Plh) Head of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Transportation Service.

The Google Maps application used to get to this destination will usually direct vehicle users from the direction of Pleret District, Bantul Regency to Patuk, Gunungkidul, DIY to cross the Cinomati route, because even though it is a steep incline or descent, it is considered the closest route and is paved.

For this reason, the Yogyakarta Special Region Transportation Service (Dishub DIY) supports the proposal to remove the Cinomati route in Bantul Regency from Google Maps, because it is very dangerous for tourists to cross during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 holidays.

“I think (the proposed deletion) “Good, because I also don’t recommend people passing there because it is very dangerous,” continued Sumariyoto.

However, the management of removing the Cinomati route from Google Map is not the domain of the DIY Transportation Agency.

“This is more in the realm of Kominfo, those who have access to Google Maps,” he added.

According to Sumariyoto, there are many alternative routes to the Gunungkidul area and to tourist attractions in the Mangunan area, Dlingo without having to pass through the Cinomati Route, Bantul.

One way is via Jalan Imogiri-Siluk then towards Selopamioro and ending in Panggang, Gunungkidul.

“Only, if you look for a route on Google Maps and Google Maps always directs you to the nearest one. The closest is Cinomati,” he said.

“We don’t dare to close it, we just appeal. Now if there are no officers, we put up prohibitory signs and it won’t be considered,” he concluded.
