The National Police continues to strive to maximize law enforcement by utilizing advanced technology. One of them is by using an electronic ticketing system or known as ETLE (Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement).
ETLE is considered to have many advantages. One of them is by installing cameras in many locations which makes surveillance coverage wider. In fact, the monitoring function is much more optimal, 24 hours non-stop.
The National Police even confirmed that in the future the ETLE camera will be equipped with a facial recognition feature. Because currently, ETLE cameras can only read and identify traffic violators from vehicle number plates when a violation occurs.
However, it is not uncommon for problems to occur because when a ticket is sent to the vehicle owner’s address it turns out that it is not the owner who committed the violation, but another driver.
In several cases, as quoted on Wednesday (6/12/2023), the vehicle owner objected to paying the ticket fine because he felt that he was not the one who committed the violation.
However, next year, the use of facial recognition technology will make it possible to ticket perpetrators of violations, not the vehicles they use.
Apart from that, ETLE technology will also be able to identify fake number plates. Combined with facial recognition, the system will read the identity of drivers who use fake number plates.
To anticipate the use of fake number plates on stolen vehicles or number plates that have expired.
But there are also people who use fake number plates not because of these methods. For example, because the original number plate is lost, the vehicle owner buys a temporary number plate.
