Daihatsu Motor Co (Daihatsu) has received the results of an investigation from the Independent Third Party Committee regarding fraud in crash test results which were then submitted to Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) as the parent company.
The results of the investigation regarding fraudulent crash test results found irregularities in 174 items in 25 test categories.
From these results it was found that 64 models and 3 vehicle engines are currently being produced, developed or discontinued, including 22 models and 1 engine sold by Toyota.
“We would like to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and concern caused to all stakeholders, including customers,” wrote Toyota’s statement, quoted Wednesday (20/12/2023).
In an investigation conducted by the Independent Third Party Committee, Daihatsu received some information regarding models that may have been involved in procedural irregularities.
Next, Daihatsu carries out one-by-one technical verification and vehicle testing to ensure safety performance meets legal standards.
However, at the final stage of the investigation, it was discovered that the airbag control unit (ECU) used during testing was different from the mass production model for airbag testing.
“We believe that to prevent a recurrence, in addition to reviewing certification operations, fundamental reforms are needed to revitalize Daihatsu as a company. This will be a very important task that cannot be completed overnight,” stressed Toyota.
Based on the data presented by Toyota, there are a number of affected models produced in Indonesia by both Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) and Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM).
A number of models known to have cheated in the crash test process include the Toyota Rush (ADM), Avanza (ADM), Veloz (TMMIN) Raize (ADM), and Yaris Cross (TMMIN).
