Telematics expert Roy Suryo recently sent a summons to the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Hasyim Asy’ari after Hasyim called “Roy Suryo a slanderer”. Hasyim is said to be facing the subpoena.
Now a member of the Indonesian KPU, Betty Epsilon Idroos, said that Hasyim was ready to face the subpoena. According to him, this has become a consequence of Hasyim as Chairman of the KPU.
So, what is the track record like of KPU Chairman Hasyim Asyari who was subpoenaed by Roy Suryo?
Track Record of Hasyim Asyari
Hasyim Asy’ari is an academic and lecturer who serves as KPU. He was born on March 3 1973 in Pati, Central Java.
Hasyim has a wife named Siti Mutmainah and has been blessed with three children. He started his education by attending Panjunan State Elementary School (SDN), Kudus. He also studied at Madrasah Diniyah As-Salam until 1988.
At the same time, Hasyim also studied at SMPN 1 Kudus, before finally graduating and continuing his education at SMAN 1 Kudus. While attending school, he was elected as Chairman of the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS).
After completing formal education, Hasyim deepened his religious knowledge at the Al-Hidayah Karangsuci Islamic Boarding School, Purwokerto. He then took a BA majoring in Constitutional Law at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) and successfully graduated in 1995.
After getting a bachelor’s degree, Hasyim continued his master’s degree by majoring in Political Science at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). He successfully graduated in 1998.
Hasyim’s education continued to a higher level. He took a Ph.D (Doctor of Philosophy) in Anthropology and Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He graduated with a doctorate in 2012.
Hasyim then became a lecturer in the Police Science Doctoral Program at the Police Science College (STIK), Indonesian Police Education and Training Institute (Lemdiklat Polri) Jakarta since 2016.
Not only that, he also a lecturer in the Social Sciences Doctoral Study Program with a concentration in Political Science Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, lecturer in the Master of Law Study Program, and lecturer in Constitutional Law at Diponegoro University in Semarang from 2013 until now.
Before assuming the position of Chairman of the KPU, Hasyim Asy’ari had a number of experiences in the field of elections. He is known to have been the Chair of the 2016 Regency/City Election Supervisory Committee Member Selection Team in Central Java.
He is also a Senior Researcher and Expert Consultant for the Drafting Team and Senior Consultant for Voter Registration Experts at the Election and Democracy Association.
