The Earth Care Relay (EPB) aspiration is a series of ongoing activities initiated by Astra Insurance–part of PT Astra International Tbk, a national company that has 272 subsidiaries, including the automotive sector, financing services and insurance–since 2022.

In carrying out its mission, Astra Insurance supports four pillars, including the pillars of education, health, environment and entrepreneurship.

Estaft Cares for the Earth or EPB activities have succeeded in carrying out sustainability efforts and spreading its benefits to the community and surrounding environment in 10 cities. Namely Medan, Semarang, DKI Jakarta, Balikpapan, Makassar, Denpasar, Sumba, Cianjur, Surabaya, Malang, and Palangka Raya and will continue to various other cities in the country.

Quoted from the official Astra Insurance release as received by , now EPB is back to spread peace of mind and kindness which has a positive impact on a sustainable basis for the community and the surrounding environment, the aspiration of the Earth Care Relay is now continuing its mission on Salamona Island, Makassar.

The aspiration this time is to pay more attention to marine areas as proof of Astra Insurance’s success in continuing its real contribution through the transplantation of 2,000 coral reef seedlings which have managed to grow well to date on Kodingareng Keke Island in 2022.

Coral reef transplantation is one of the rehabilitation efforts Coral reefs can be a solution for restoring damaged coral reefs and creating new habitats. So it can support fisheries ecosystems in the sea to shelter, breed and forage for marine biota and prevent erosion and environmental damage through its function as a wave breaker. Coral reefs can also have a positive impact on the economy of residents, both those who work as fishermen and those who live on the island, through tourism attractions [Astra Insurance] In the following year, 2023, shift slightly to a new location so that marine conservation spreads evenly and well, to be precise On Salamona Island, aspirations were realized by transplanting 5,000 coral reefs in collaboration with the Dolphin Diving Club, a diving community that is actively involved in preserving the environment.

Coral reef transplantation is one of the efforts to rehabilitate coral reefs in order to be a solution for restoring damaged coral reefs and creating new habitats. So it can support fisheries ecosystems in the sea to shelter, breed and forage for marine biota and prevent erosion and environmental damage through its function as a wave breaker. Coral reefs can also have a positive impact on the economy of residents, both those who work as fishermen and those who live on the island, through tourism attractions.

Furthermore, in optimizing its mission to protect marine ecosystems and sustainability, Astra Insurance collaborates with MallSampah, a buying and selling and recycling service as well as application-based waste and environmental education, to clean up plastic waste around the coast.

The collection of plastic waste was selected and reprocessed so that it can be used as useful items suitable for use. Cleaning coastal areas of plastic waste is carried out to protect coastlines to avoid pollution and ensure the prosperity of life on Earth as well as to invite people to start collective action on waste and recycling.

“Sometimes people miss the fact that the Earth consists of land and water. Most of us only focus on protecting and caring for the surrounding environment on land but forget about water areas which are no less important. Like coral reefs, if damaged or destroyed it will endanger coastal residents from waves and storms and stop the life of sea creatures who will lose their homes and food sources. “Added to this is plastic waste on the coast which will gradually end up in the sea and pollute it,” explained Christopher Pangestu, President Director of Astra Insurance, after the symbolic handover of coral reef seeds to the local government.

“Aspirations of the Earth Care Relay in Makassar for the second time “The hope is that it can strengthen awareness for various parties, starting from personal awareness to encouraging collective Pentahelix collaboration so that they can continue to care for marine and coastal areas so that they are free from plastic pollution and other pollutants that disrupt the ecosystem and create serious losses in the future,” he continued.

What Christopher Pangestu said is in line with the records of the Directorate General of Marine and Marine Spatial Management (PKRL), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) regarding the area of coral reefs in Indonesian waters currently reaching 2.5 million hectares with the number of species reaching 569 species.

However, unfortunately, around 33.82 percent of them were damaged or in poor condition. Astra Insurance is aware of this and knows the importance of protecting the Earth, from land to water, to ensure that the Earth is truly comfortable and safe to live in.
