PLN Indonesia Power Prepares First Hydrogen Refueling Station in Senayan Jakarta

,

PT PLN (Persero) is currently preparing a Hydrogen Refueling Station or HRS as a pilot project in the Senayan area, Jakarta.

“This will be the first hydrogen refueling station in Indonesia. This will also increase public interest in switching to environmentally friendly vehicles, namely hydrogen cars,” explained Edwin Nugraha Putra, President Director of PLN Indonesia Power.

Quoted from the Antara news agency, PLN’s steam gas power plant (PLTGU) or steam power plant (PLTU) already has a hydrogen plant with an electrolyzer.

From the 21 hydrogen plant units, 199 tons of hydrogen is produced per year. Unfortunately, only 75 tons per year are used for the cooling needs of power generator generators.

For this reason, President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo stated that there is an opportunity to utilize this hydrogen as value creation which can provide added value to PT PLN (Persero)’s business, while also supporting the energy transition.

Then this company innovated to produce green hydrogen as an environmentally friendly alternative energy.

The result is the development of a green hydrogen supply chain in Indonesia. Including HRS which will later be used for charging FCEVs or Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles.

Returning to PLN’s capacity as a hydrogen producer, it is currently capable of producing 199 tons of green hydrogen.

This hydrogen is produced through 21 green hydrogen plants (GHP) spread throughout Indonesia.

“This is a concrete manifestation of collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). We are carrying out this innovation work in response to the energy transition,” said Darmawan Prasodjo.

“Maximizing existing facilities at thermal plants then we innovate by utilizing 100 percent EBT (new renewable energy) into green hydrogen,” he said again.

Apart from HRS, PLN is making innovations by utilizing solar PV installed in PLN generating areas coupled with renewable energy certificates (REC) from several EBT generators in Indonesia. In this way, PLN is able to produce 100 percent green hydrogen.

“With this innovation, apart from cooling generator generators, green hydrogen can be used for various purposes, including for the fertilizer industry, chemical industry, cofiring generators and even for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV),” he concluded.
