Do you have plans to buy a new vehicle, aka buying a new car or new motorbike to welcome the end of the year and into the beginning of 2024? Apart from relying on information in the form of reviews, this discourse is also special. Namely using “best” parameters based on the assessment of judges from one of the institutions. Among them is the Indonesian Automotive Journalists Forum (FORWOT).
Quoted from the Antara news agency, after three years of not holding awards due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FORWOT is now holding the 2023 Cars and Motorcycles of the Year awards event.
FORWOT Cars of The Year (FCY) and FORWOT Motorcycles of The Year (FMY) is a prestigious award for four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles chosen by automotive journalists from various national media independently, professionally and objectively. This award itself is one of FORWOT’s contributions to the issue and existence of the automotive industry in Indonesia.
Various categories are presented in FCY and FMY, which follow the current trend in the automotive industry, namely the classification for electric vehicles or the electrification sector. Namely Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and and Battery Electric Vehicle or BEV.
“The presence of these new categories cannot be separated from the trend of electrified vehicles in Indonesia. “Through this award, we also want to appreciate manufacturers who have launched electrification technology which we hope can help achieve emissions cutting targets and grow the domestic automotive industry,” explained Indra Prabowo, General Chair of FORWOT.
For the motorbike category, it is divided into two categories, namely petrol engines and electric motorbikes. In this category, there are 59 models launched from January 2022 to October 2023. 15 of them are electric motorbikes.
Overall, the FORWOT award judging sets the same concept, where FORWOT members are involved in selecting various vehicles that have been collected from January 2022 to October 2023. The announcement of the winners from each category will be held on Friday this week (22/ 12/2023) in Jakarta.
“The market has responded well to the presence of these environmentally friendly vehicles and it has been proven that sales have increased in recent years. “On the other hand, we capture the growing trend of SUVs from various dimensions, from small, compact, medium to large,” explained Mufrod, Chairman of the FORWOT Four-Wheel Division and Chairman of the FCY 2023 Jury.

[Carscoops] “Relatively low operational costs are one of the reasons people are starting to switch to using electric motorbikes. “The demand is getting bigger, as can be seen from the increasing number of brands and models available on the market,” added Ainto Harry Budiawan, Head of the FORWOT Two-Wheel Division and Head of the FMY 2023 Jury.
The presence of electric vehicle products or Electric Vehicle (EV) itself is one an effort encouraged by the government to achieve the carbon neutrality target by 2060. President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Decree no. 79/2023 regarding TKDN for electric cars to stimulate the battery-based electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.
