A car overheating can be quite a stressful moment and requires quick action to prevent further damage.
If you face this situation, pay attention to the steps you can take to overcome the problem of overheating in your car.
Quoted from the official MG website, here are 8 things that need to be done:

If you see signs of the car overheating, the first step you must take is immediately stopped on the side of the road. This aims to minimize the potential for damage to engine components due to temperatures that are too high.
2. Turn off the car engine
After stopping, turn off the car engine immediately. This will help prevent engine temperatures from increasing further and reduce the risk of more serious component damage.
3. Cooling the Engine
How long does it take to cool an overheated car engine? Ideally, let the car engine rest for 30-60 minutes. This allows sufficient time for cooling before performing the next steps.
4. Open the Engine Hood
Open the engine hood slowly after the engine is off. This allows heat trapped inside the engine compartment to escape outside more quickly, helping the cooling process.
5. Be careful when opening the radiator cap
Don’t immediately open the radiator cap when the engine is still hot or emitting smoke. This can cause high-pressure steam and water to escape, resulting in a risk of sparks. Wait until the engine has completely cooled before opening the radiator cap.
6. Check the Radiator Water Reserve Tube
Check the radiator water reserve tube and make sure the water level is sufficient. If the radiator is low on water, add water immediately. Lack of coolant can cause serious problems with the engine.
7. Check for Leaks in the Cooling System
If the situation allows, check for leaks in the cooling system, including the radiator, engine block and cylinder head. Leaks need to be addressed immediately to prevent repeated overheating.
8. Call for help if needed
If after carrying out these steps the car is still hot or even stalls, immediately call for help. Contact the nearest repair shop or use the road assistance application to get the right help.
Overheating is indeed a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Carrying out regular checks on the cooling system and engine components can help prevent overheating. Make sure to always pay attention to the engine temperature and keep the car in top condition.
