The lack of a used electric car market is considered to be an obstacle to the EV transition in Indonesia

The slow transition to electric vehicles (EV) in Indonesia is considered to be influenced by many factors. One of them is that there has not yet been a market for used electric cars.

According to Member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Eddy Soeparno, the used electric car market is one of the factors that has had quite an influence on the development of the electric car industry in the country.

The used vehicle market is considered important in the development of the automotive industry. This will provide convenience to consumers who want to buy a vehicle.

This is considered necessary if electric vehicles want to develop more rapidly in Indonesia.

Considering that currently people in Indonesia are thinking about the resale price before deciding to buy a new vehicle.

“Today, I don’t think there is a market for used electric cars. So we don’t know. In my opinion, EVs are good and also important, but the ecosystem really has to mature,” said Eddy Soeparno, quoted on Sunday (26/11 /2023).

Another factor, continued Eddy, is the slow transition to electric vehicles is the availability of SPKLU (Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations), service and aftersales services for electric cars. According to him, the availability of fast charging SPKLU can encourage people to start switching to electric vehicles

“I think, if we talk about EVs today, there are several challenges, the first is SPKLU. “Especially the fast charging type, don’t let us, for example, travel from Jakarta to Surabaya, and then fill the battery at SPKLU (it turns out) the wait (up to) two hours,” he explained.

Apart from that, Eddy said batteries are also an important issue for electric vehicles The high price of electric car batteries means that people are not willing to switch to electric vehicles.

“Regarding battery durability, we have to know about it, including the cost of replacing it, because the battery is the biggest component in an EV. “The third is service and maintenance,” he concluded.
