Washington D.C. – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claims to have spoken with United States President Donald Trump regarding the outcomes of the U.S. leader’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This information was shared by Zelensky via his Telegram channel on Saturday morning.
In the post, Zelensky announced his plans to travel to Washington next week to meet Trump in person. He described the meeting as a follow-up to a “long and meaningful conversation” lasting approximately 90 minutes with Trump, which took place shortly after the Trump-Putin summit.
“President Trump informed me about his meeting with the Russian leader, including the key points of their discussion,” Zelensky said. “I will discuss all the details regarding ending the killings and the war with President Trump in Washington on Monday. Thank you for the invitation.”
Alaska Summit: Praise and Conflict Developments
Previously, at the Alaska summit, Putin received a warm reception. Both leaders praised their negotiations as constructive. Although no specific agreement on Ukraine was announced, Trump later stated that both sides were getting closer to resolving the conflict. He even urged Zelensky to “make a deal.”
Trilateral Meeting Proposal and Western Europe’s Involvement
Zelensky also expressed support for Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine. However, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov previously clarified that Russia and the U.S. had not discussed the potential for such a trilateral meeting.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian leader reiterated Kyiv’s desire for its Western European supporters to be involved in every stage of the talks. The goal is to ensure Ukraine receives strong security guarantees backed by the U.S. “We discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing security for Ukraine,” Zelensky claimed.
Recalling the Previous Visit’s Incident
Zelensky’s last visit to Washington in late February ended in what was described as a public relations debacle. His conversation with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance at the time led to an open confrontation. The U.S. President accused Zelensky of being disrespectful and “gambling with World War III.” A joint press conference was canceled, Zelensky was promptly escorted out of the White House, and the U.S. temporarily suspended military aid to Kyiv.
