PKB Deputy Chairman Jazilul Fawaid responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s statement suggesting that Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) could potentially become a future leader of Indonesia. Jazilul clarified that the remark was made in a joking context.
“Oh no, not 2029, he meant the future. I was there, and it was a joke about how the future belongs to these young people who have opportunities, something like that,” Jazilul said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (26/2/2025).
When asked whether AHY is among the candidates PKB would consider, Jazilul said it’s not the right time to discuss that. He emphasized that their current focus is on supporting Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
“It’s not the time to talk about that yet. Right now, the focus is on ensuring the success of Mr. Prabowo’s government. After all, when Mr. Prabowo outlined Indonesia 2050 and calculated timelines based on birth years, by 2050 Mr. Prabowo would be a certain age, AHY would be a certain age—that’s all it was,” Jazilul explained.
He noted that President Prabowo’s statement at the Democratic Party’s VI Congress was part of a projection. When asked about the future prospects of PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), Jazilul suggested directing the question to Prabowo Subianto.
“It’s more about, what’s the word, calculations, age-based projections. No, not yet (regarding Cak Imin’s chances), for now it’s just about helping Mr. Prabowo. Ask Mr. Prabowo then, ha-ha-ha,” he said.
President Prabowo Subianto hinted at the potential of Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). He remarked that with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) having been the 6th President, it’s not impossible for there to be a “President AHY.”
“Right now, how old is Mas AHY? 45, right? 46? Plus 25 (to 2050), he’d only be 69, who knows. There was President SBY, who knows, there might be a President AHY—I don’t know,” Prabowo said in his speech at the Democratic Party’s VI Congress at the Ritz-Carlton, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/2).
Prabowo then nudged Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who was seated next to AHY at the congress. He remarked that while they’re currently sitting side by side, they might compete in the future.
“They’re sitting together now, but later these two might be rivals,” Prabowo continued, addressing AHY and Gibran, prompting cheers from the party members.
Prabowo added that competition is not a problem, as long as whoever wins brings everyone together afterward.
“It’s fine, competition is good. Whoever comes out on top should invite the runner-up, invite the third place, right?” Prabowo said.
