How many miles do you change motor oil? What are the signs that it`s time to change the oil?

Engine oil plays an important role in maintaining the performance and survival of your motorbike. However, questions that often arise are how often engine oil should be changed and what are the signs that the time has come for an oil change.

This article will discuss these topics to help you take better care of your motorbike.

1. Oil Change Frequency

As a general guide, engine oil should be changed every 3,000 to 5,000 kilometers or every 3 to 6 months, depending on the conditions of use and the type of oil used. Although some modern oils have a longer lifespan, it is still important to follow your motorbike manufacturer’s recommendations.

2. Oil Color and Consistency

One of the main signs that the oil needs to be changed is a change in color and consistency. New engine oil has a yellow or light brown color, but over time, it will turn dark brown or black because it contains dirt particles and engine residue. If you notice a drastic change in the color of the oil or if it looks dirty, this may be a sign that the oil needs to be changed immediately.

3. Oil Level Decreased

Check the oil level regularly using an oil dipstick. If the oil level drops below the recommended level, add new oil as needed. If you frequently notice a significant drop in the oil level, this could be a sign of a leak or other problem that requires attention.

Oil that is old and dirty may no longer provide optimal lubrication, which can cause a louder engine sound. If you start to hear unusual rubbing or knocking sounds, it could be a sign that the oil needs to be changed.

5. Decreased Engine Performance

Dirty oil can cause a decrease in engine performance, including increasing engine temperature. If you feel the engine is hotter than usual or experiencing a decrease in power, this could be an indication that the oil needs to be changed to keep the engine cool and performing optimally.

Regular oil changes are a small investment that can extend the life of your motorbike engine. Always refer to the motorbike owner’s manual and consult with a trusted mechanic to determine the right oil change schedule according to the condition and needs of your motorbike.
