Optimism about the Presence of the EV Industry in Indonesia: Will Create Innovative Jobs

Posted on December 2, 2023August 12, 2025 by syauqi wiryahasana

Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 in Jakarta which lasted three days at the Smesco Indonesia Building, Jakarta produced a series of positive results.

As stated by Budi Setiyadi, General Chair of the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli), a number of neighboring countries have expressed interest and support for the EV or Electric Vehicle industry, aka electric vehicles in Indonesia.

Among other things, you can see the presence of representatives from China, Thailand and Vietnam at the venue for the exhibition and sales exchange for electric motorbikes in Jakarta. For the record, this activity has only been staged once.

Quoted from the Antara news agency, Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 recorded several increases in transactions and commitments from buyers, including Ministries/Institutions, the private sector and individuals, with actors or owners of EV brands who attended this exhibition.

“Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 recorded a B2C (Business to Customer) transaction value of 156 units with a value of IDR 2.09 billion and B2B (Business to Business) and B2G (Business to Government) potential of 32,431 units with a value of IDR 423 billion ,” explained Budi Setiyadi.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki stated that the electric vehicle or EV industry in Indonesia is capable of creating a new economy and great opportunities for MSMEs in creating innovative jobs.

“EVs are able to create a new economy so they must be grown to create jobs. Because so far, as many as 97 percent of jobs are provided by the informal micro sector. EVs are a new economy after the palm oil industry which is expected to become a driver of the national economy,” explained the Minister of Cooperatives UKM Teten Masduki at the Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 event.

The Coordinating Minister for UKM assesses that MSMEs can be involved in the supply chain of the electric vehicle ecosystem both as spare parts providers, distributors, dealers, charging service providers, electric vehicle conversion workshops, and various other business derivatives .

NCCP Raintai Pasok is said not only to provide business sustainability, but to support the growth of a more inclusive electric vehicle ecosystem.

“From the start I believed that the EV industry would change the structure of the world automotive industry, including Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia has a large market. In fact, it is not impossible, in the future ice cream traders, meatball and satay traders will no longer use carts, but will use electric motorbikes,” said Teten Masduki.

This optimism is supported by the growth of the EV industry, which in the last three years has seen 58 brands carry out production domestically. Some of them even have a Domestic Content Level (TKDN) reaching 60 percent, higher than the TKDN regulation of 40 percent.

“Because provision is not only for government institutions but individuals. We support a better environment. As well as giving rise to more MSMEs, whose spare parts needs will be produced using a supply chain concept. I am optimistic that we can compete with big brands.” from abroad, both in terms of price and quality,” continued Teten Masduki.

Inbuyer EV Expo 2023 also produces a mandatory K/L including BUMN to gradually replace conventional vehicles with electric motorized vehicles.

“I hope that, if possible, there should be a supervisory team in carrying out this mandatory. “We also continue to coordinate with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves),” he said again.

For the record, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has announced that Indonesia will move towards Net Zero Emission or NZE 2060. At that time it is hoped that all motor vehicle fuel will be available. using renewable or non-fossil or non-BBM (Oil Fuel) energy.

In this way air pollution can be reduced, while the green environment is expanded and maintained. The concept of green space and environmentally friendly vehicles is also applied in the National Capital City (IKN ) Nusantara which is located in North Penajam Paser District in East Kalimantan.

IKN Nusantara will be a model for other cities in Indonesia in implementing future cities that are environmentally friendly, energy efficient, independent and sustainable.
